Portrait session FAQs
Whether it is a new baby or a 90th birthday party, the smiles and the tears of life matter. Time spent with family is precious and it goes by way too fast! Photographing families brings so much joy to my heart because I get to be a part of unspoken bonds and deep, deep love. I have a classic style of portraiture with a twist. I love to mix in candids and "real life." I want to show you and your family as you really are; all of the crazy, all of the joy, and all of the mundane. I want to be there to capture it all for you in a way that beautifully tells your story and documents "your people" as they experience life.

What can I expect if I book you?
I always start the process with a phone or in-person conversation, deciding who is going to be in photos and what your goals for the session are. I love to tailor my sessions to you and your life, so anything we can do to personalize the session is good for me! On the day of the session, I keep it very casual. If you have little kiddos, I tend to talk and play with them so that they feel comfortable when I pick up the camera. We tend to be silly and laugh A LOT. I will do some posed portraits as well as some candids with everyone interacting. I never want anyone to stress about the photo session, so I am always reading the emotions of the moment so that I can determine whether we need to slow it down or take snack breaks, etc.
What should I wear?
This is always a tough one! I want you and your family to feel confident in the photos. I encourage you to wear things you are comfortable in so that you can move freely and be yourself. When you are confident, that will come across in the photos. I suggest coordinating a color scheme, but don't be perfectly matched. You want everyone's outfits to look good together, but for each to have its own personality. Mixing some solids with patterns is always a win!
How long until I get my images to view?
The typical turn-around time for your images is about 2 weeks. I often give a sneak peek within days so you can share on social media. Once your final images are edited, I will release your online gallery for viewing and downloading, and from there, you can choose your print(s) and other products.
I notice that your packages include printed pieces. Why is that?
I feel very strongly that every family should have at least one professional print from their photo shoot. The quality of our prints far exceeds that of most local print centers. It's very easy to let files sit on a computer or hard drive and never print them. Printed pieces are so special and they offer a beautiful reflection of your best moments. They are timeless, and, as technology changes, it's hard to say what the next big thing will be digitally. Prints and albums are tried and true.
What is a "Day in the life" session?
Only one of my favorite things! These sessions are designed to really document your life. This type of session is wonderful for families with small children or a new baby. It focuses on the little tasks that you do throughout your day that are maybe not glamorous, but that are so special and that you will miss as your babies get older. This is a very photojournalistic session. While I may get some great portraits, the focus is on the moments and the story. We often will meet ahead of time and make a game plan for the day and let the kids meet me. I like to for us to plan a few activities like bath time or baking cookies, etc. Even if things don't go as planned (which is totally normal) this gives us a starting point for our session.
